Creating a Birth Plan
A birth plan is a short outline of your wishes for labor, delivery, and your baby's first hours, so your medical team knows what matters to you. Research shows that people who feel they have choices during labor tend to remember the experience more positively.
Keep it simple
One page with a bulleted list is best. Your team is more likely to read the whole thing.
Stay flexible

Birth doesn't always go as planned. Think of your plan as your preferences, not a script.
What to include
Where you'll give birth and who will be with you; your preferences for pain management, interventions, and labor positions; and your wishes for newborn care and feeding.
Ask questions
If your team suggests something different from your plan, it's okay to ask why. You deserve to feel you have options.
