Put In and Take Out

Your baby probably loves taking things out of containers. Next they'll learn to put them back in, again and again! This simple game builds important thinking skills.

What your baby is learning

Which objects fit and which are too big; that things can "go away" and "come back"; how different objects sound; and new words.

Use what you have

Try spoons in a plastic container, toys in a bin, clothes in a laundry basket, or cereal pieces in a cup.

Say the words

Say "in" and "out" as your baby plays: "Put the spoon in!" "You took the ball out!"

Keep it safe

Make sure everything is too big to choke on, since it will probably end up in your baby's mouth.
