Babyproofing Your Home
Once your baby is on the move, it's time to look at your home through their eyes. No home can be perfectly safe, so close supervision is still the most important thing.
Prevent falls
Install safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs. Move furniture away from windows and use window guards; screens won't stop a fall. Skip baby walkers and use a stationary activity center instead.
Anchor furniture and TVs
Secure TVs, dressers, and bookcases to the wall. Babies who pull up to stand can tip them over.
Keep small things out of reach
Clear small objects that could cause choking off the floor. Store medicines, cleaners, and button batteries up high and locked.
Have a safe spot
If you need to step away briefly, put your baby in a crib or play yard with nothing inside that could cause choking or suffocation. Check that your smoke alarms work.
