Newborn Sleep Expectations
Welcome to the world, little one, and welcome to sleep deprivation! Knowing what to expect for the next few months can make it a little easier.
Newborns wake often
Most newborns need to eat every 2 to 3 hours, day and night. Yes, that often!
Helping your baby settle
Newborns can't soothe themselves yet and may need you to help them fall asleep. Swaddling can calm the startle reflex. Keep the blanket away from their face, and stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows signs of trying to roll over.
Take care of you
Sleep when the baby sleeps and let the chores wait. Accept help when it's offered, and ask for it when it isn't.
Always sleep safe
Follow the ABCs: Alone, on their Back, in a Crib or bassinet.
