Recovery After a Traumatic Birth
Congratulations on your little one! As you look back on your baby's birth, it may not have gone the way you expected. Some people experience a difficult or traumatic birth for many reasons, such as a long labor, medical interventions, or the type of delivery.
It's okay to not feel okay
You can be so happy to have your baby and still feel hurt by the birth. Those feelings are valid. Journaling, a support group, or a counselor can help you work through them.
Understand what happened
Talk to your OB about your birth. You can also ask for your medical records. This can be especially helpful if you plan to have more children.
Accept all the help you can
Let others help with housework, groceries, meals, and baby care.
Be gentle with yourself
Your baby's birth is one experience of many to come. It doesn't define your growing relationship with your baby.
