Separation Anxiety
Your baby may get upset when you leave, even just to go to another room. This is normal between about 8 months and 2 years, as babies learn that you still exist when they can't see you.
Practice short goodbyes
Leave your baby with a trusted caregiver for short periods. They'll learn you always come back.
Time it well
Leave when your baby is fed and rested, not tired or hungry.
Keep goodbyes short and sweet
Say a gentle goodbye, tell your baby when you'll be back ("after your nap"), and go. Ask the caregiver to offer a favorite toy right away.
Offer a comfort item
A special blanket or stuffed animal can help while you're gone, as long as it stays out of the crib at sleep time until your baby's first birthday.
Tears usually stop soon after you leave, especially once your baby gets busy with something else.
