Soothing Your Crying Baby
Crying is one way babies tell us what they need. Sometimes babies cry a lot, and that can be really stressful. It's okay to say so.
Check the basics first
Does your baby need a diaper change, a feeding, or a burp? Are they tired or overstimulated?
Try movement and sound
Pick your baby up and gently rock or bounce. Sing or talk in a soothing voice. Any song works.
Change the scene
Many babies calm down near a window or outside. A pacifier can also help.
Take a break if you need to
If you feel stressed or like you might lose control, put your baby down in a safe place, like their crib, close the door, and breathe for a few minutes. You're still a good parent. Never shake a baby.
Wondering if something is causing the crying, like a food or formula sensitivity? Talk with your baby's doctor.
