SEWICKLEY RESIDENT HELPS LAUNCH PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN NURTUREPA AND SEWICKLEY VALLEY YMCA TO SUPPORT NEW MOMS

SEWICKLEY, PA — March 4, 2026 — A new partnership between NurturePA and the Sewickley Valley YMCA is bringing additional support to families with young children in the Sewickley area, thanks in part to the efforts of local resident and mom, Rachael Wonderlin. 

NurturePA, a nonprofit organization that offers free mentorship to mothers of young children through text message‑based support, has begun collaborating with the Sewickley Valley YMCA to share information about its services through the YMCA’s Mini Pantries and upcoming food box distributions. Informational flyers about NurturePA will be included in a food box delivery scheduled for March 14, helping connect families already accessing community resources with additional support. 

NurturePA trains mentors – real local moms who have been there – to support moms with children ages 0-5, using text messaging to provide encouragement, trusted resources, and a sense of connection during the early years of parenting. The organization serves families throughout Allegheny County and surrounding areas and often works with local partners to reach families where they already are. 

“This felt like a natural fit for Sewickley,” said Rachael Wonderlin, who works with NurturePA and is also a member of the Sewickley Valley YMCA. “The YMCA already supports families in so many ways, and this partnership allows us to reach parents of young children right here in Quaker Valley and beyond.”  

YMCA staff expressed interest in exploring additional opportunities to collaborate, including connections with childcare programs and other community outreach initiatives that serve families with young children. Conversations about future partnerships are ongoing. 

“NurturePA has been supporting moms in the greater Pittsburgh area for well over a decade,” said Susan Kaminski, Board President of NurturePA and local Sewickley resident. “It is our hope that this partnership with the YMCA allows us to grow our outreach in Quaker Valley and the surrounding communities. When we needed additional mentors this past year, the Sewickley community heeded the call and we had 15 additional mentors within a month. We are grateful to have this opportunity to give back to a community that has already given us so much.”  

The Sewickley Valley YMCA has long served as a hub for family‑focused programs and community outreach, making it a strong local partner for NurturePA’s mission to support new mothers through connection and access to resources.
