WESTMORELAND COUNTY MOM TURNS PERSONAL JOURNEY INTO COMMUNITY IMPACT

IRWIN, PA — March 25, 2026 —Seven years ago, Amanda George was a first-time mom navigating pregnancy and early parenthood with the support of NurturePA's free text-based peer mentoring program. Today, she is one of NurturePA's paid mentors -- and one of the most vivid examples of what happens when a community invests in mothers. 

NurturePA is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit that provides free, confidential text-based peer mentoring to mothers from pregnancy through their child's fifth birthday. Mentors -

- many of them mothers who were once mentees themselves -- offer judgment-free support, information, and connection during one of life’s most demanding seasons. 

George spent her first two years with NurturePA as a mentee before transitioning to the mentor side of the relationship. She was among the original participants in NurturePA's pilot program for Tier 2 mentoring -- an enhanced level of support for mothers facing greater challenges -- and has been a Tier 2 mentor since that program officially launched in 2021. 

“I know what it means to have someone in your corner when you’re figuring out motherhood,” said George. “That’s what I try to be for the moms I mentor.” 

Building a Baby Bank for Westmoreland County 

George’s commitment to mothers extends far beyond her mentoring role. She was instrumental in helping her church launch Blessed Bundles, a baby bank serving families across both Westmoreland and Allegheny counties. Each month, Blessed Bundles provides diapers, formula, and a wide range of essential baby items to as many as 150 families, free of charge. 

While her day-to-day involvement in distributions has evolved, George now manages Blessed Bundles’ social media presence and marketing, keeping the community informed and engaged so the organization can continue growing its reach. 

Empowering Moms Through Movement 

George is also a yoga instructor at a local all-women’s gym, EmpowerHer Fitness, whose mission centers on empowering women and mothers. The gym -- the first of its kind in the area to offer on-site childcare and programming specifically designed for moms and kids -- provides a welcoming space for women at every stage of motherhood. 

George teaches a range of classes, including prenatal yoga, postnatal yoga, Mommy & Me sessions, and children’s classes. Her work in the studio reflects the same philosophy that drives her mentoring: that mothers deserve dedicated support, community, and space to thrive.
